Appearance: Brownish green with small metallic blue spots on the back of the dorsal and anal fins. They can reach a length of up to 8 inches. Among the smaller members of the sunfish family, it should be noted that this member has a relatively larger mouth than others.

Habitat: In the park, they are a warmwater stream inhabitant, making their home in lower reaches of streams like Tabcat and Shop Creeks above the embayments, and lower Abrams Creek.

Interesting Fact: It hybridizes with at least seven other species in the genus Lepomis.
