Appearance: The back can be either greenish or dark brown, the sides typically have dark stripes, and the jaw line does not extend past the eye. They have been known to grow to over 2 feet in length.

Interesting Fact: The smallmouth bass is a much more aggressive feeder than its relative the largemouth bass. It is a much sought-after gamefish for anglers.

Habitat: Streams and Reservoirs. In the park, they can be found in the Little Pigeon River, the Oconaluftee River, Laurel Creek, and other large streams.
