Information Page for Felis silvestris (Domestic cat)

Photographer: Cooper, Chuck

This species is the common 'domestic cat.' It is typically known as the 'pet cat' at home, or the 'barn cat' of the American farm. When roaming away from the confines of the human property, it is considered a 'wild cat', 'stray cat', or 'feral cat'.

Unfortunately, the 'feral cat' is considered somewhat of a problem in the park because of its skill in killing wild, and sometimes rare species, of birds, and other small animals of park management concern.

Domestic cats are recognized as adorable, furry companions to many people. However, it is recommended that these efficient predators be confined to one's home or home property, and be neutered or spayed as soon as is possible.
