Park Desktop Database Information

Park Desktop Database Information

  • This Microsoft Access database and its interface program were developed specifically for the ATBI.
  • Numerous provisions have been made to support data and collection protocols that differ according to the organisms being studied, but share many features common to all of these projects.
  • Indeed, this database can be portrayed as a composite of individual project databases sharing the same format and interface.
  • Accordingly, some data can be analyzed globally across all projects, while other data fields are strictly organism and/or protocol dependent.

Components to Download:

Data Entry:

  • Most importantly, this interface program serves for entry of new data.
    • Two options are provided:
      • A general data entry form supporting all options including host-parasite relationships:
        • Tutorial - tutorial_data_entry.pdf (267 KB).
      • A spreadsheet simplifying data entry when species identification is feasible at collection time:

Site Coordinates:

  • Exact coordinates of collection sites are part of this inventory.
    • We expect GPS readings to be checked by displaying point locations on a topographic map.
    • If you do not have a GPS, marking the collection site on the map and reading off coordinates is acceptable.
    • GPS instructions are available at Guidelines for Collecting GPS Data.

Submitting Data:

  • General guidelines for data submission can be found by clicking HERE.
  • If you use our interface program to enter new data, you can ship us the data file ATBI_data.mdb (or renamed) either zipped as an e-mail attachment to Michael_Kunze@nps.gov, or simply copied on CD by mail.
